Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to damage or destroy my books?
No, we do not. Many services today cut the spine and disassemble the books to feed them through high-speed page scanners. Although faster and sometimes slightly less expensive, this destroys a potentially valuable book and a piece of history. Our scanning process preserves your books by never even breaking the spine. They are placed in a book cradle that slightly opens the book and two overhead cameras take images of each page. We come from the Antiquarian and Used book trade and will always handle your books with the utmost care.

What are your Prices?
Please request a Price Guide on our email form on the front page or reach us via our contact page information. When corresponding by email, please describe the number of books, dimensions, page counts and any special information you feel would be pertinent to the project. Also please indicate that either all documents are in the public domain or you have copyrights granted to you which allow you to copy it.

How do you recommend I ship my books?
In a manner similar to how we ship them back to you. We wrap each book protective foam and surround them by newspaper or confetti in a heavy-duty cardboard box. If the books are exceptionally valuable we will double box- taking the first box and placing it into a larger one surrounded by more tissue and confetti to produce crush zones that will prevent any damage from reaching the book. We insure the books via your valuation and request and pass this cost on. Everything is shipped either Priority or Media Mail via USPS. I shipped several thousand books via Media Mail over the last 2-3 years without insurance and have only had one reported as lost by a customer.
What format files do you provide?
We provide the individual image files which have been edited back with each order. We also provide either a single file PDF version that has the entire book in one file. This file is a PDF file with each page represented as the original image of the book pages scanned. If OCR services are requested we will provide either a PDF or Word file in editable format.
What other services do you provide?
OCR and document clean-up, Proofreading, Modernizing Language and Rewriting, Locating and Inserting New Images, Total eBook Creation, eBook Cover Design

Can you remove Library Stamps or marks from the pages?
It is possible in most cases if you ask us to perform the OCR and remove unwanted markings (document-Clean-up) that we can do so. There are some cases where a stamp or scribbling is done over an image in a place that cannot be touched up without being noticeable. If this is the case we will let you know. Just eliminating reference to the photo in the book and leaving it out or by cropping the original photo and changing it slightly can sometimes solve this.

Do you have samples of the different File Format options?
Yes, Send us a request via email and we will mail you a sample of a PDF image format, PDF OCR format, and a Word Format document.

What is your turnaround time?
Unless we have an unusually high volume or proofreading of a very large book is involved we can have your order out in 7-10 days.

Are there any books or magazines that you cannot scan?
Yes currently we are limited to Books and Magazines with a scannable area of 10"x14". There are also certain books where the pages are bound off center that do not work well with our system These are pretty rare and are usually where pamphlets have been bound together.

What methods of Payment do you accept?
We accept Paypal, Money Order or Personal Check. Personal Checks and Money Orders require 10 days to clear before work is started. We will send you an invoice when we receive your books prior to working on them. This allows us to examine them for any document clean-up that might need to be done.
